About the Invoice Generator
The ToolNestr Invoice Generator is a free, browser-based tool that lets you create professional invoices in minutes without any accounting software, subscriptions, or sign-up. Fill in your business details, add your client's information, list your line items with quantities and prices, set your discount and tax rates, and a live preview updates in real time on the right side of the screen. Choose from five distinct templates, add a drawn or typed signature, stamp the invoice's payment status, and download it as a PDF directly from your browser.
Freelancers, consultants, small business owners, and sole traders frequently need to create occasional invoices without the overhead of a full accounting platform. Most paid invoicing software charges a monthly subscription even if you only create a few invoices per year. This tool provides the core functionality — professional invoice layouts, automatic calculations, logo upload, signatures, payment status stamps, bank details, and PDF download — completely free and without storing any of your business or client data on any server.
Five professional templates
Pick the look that matches your brand: Classic (a bold indigo header), Modern Minimal (clean lines, no color block), Bold Corporate (a vivid gradient header for creative agencies), Elegant Serif (a refined serif typeface for consultants and law firms), or Creative Sidebar (a colored sidebar layout that puts your branding front and center). Switching templates preserves all of your entered data — only the visual design changes.
Signatures — draw or type
Add a personal touch with a signature. Draw one directly with your mouse or finger on the signature pad, or simply type your name and have it rendered in an elegant cursive script font. Either option embeds the signature directly into the invoice preview and the printed PDF — no external e-signature service required.
Live preview and real-time calculations
The two-panel layout shows the editor on the left and a live invoice preview on the right. Every change you make — typing a client name, adding a line item, changing a quantity — is instantly reflected in the preview. Subtotals, discount amounts, tax amounts, and the final total are all calculated automatically from your input values.
Logo upload
You can upload your company logo or any image to appear in the top-left corner of the invoice. The tool reads the image file locally using the FileReader API and converts it to a base64 data URL that is embedded directly into the invoice HTML. This means your logo appears correctly in the PDF without requiring any server upload or external hosting. Supported image formats include PNG, JPG, GIF and WebP.
Payment status stamps
Mark any invoice as Paid, Unpaid, Overdue, or Draft. The tool renders a rotated, color-coded stamp directly on the invoice — green for Paid, amber for Unpaid, red for Overdue, and gray for Draft — so there's never any ambiguity about where a payment stands.
Multiple currencies
The invoice generator supports 16 major currencies including USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, AED, INR, CAD, AUD and more. Selecting a currency changes the currency symbol displayed throughout the invoice. Note that the tool does not perform currency conversion — it simply formats amounts with the selected currency symbol.
Discount, tax and bank details
The discount field applies a percentage reduction to the subtotal before tax is calculated. The tax field applies a percentage tax (such as VAT, GST, or sales tax) to the discounted subtotal. The Bank / Payment Details field lets you include your IBAN, account number, or a payment link (e.g. PayPal.me) directly on the invoice so clients know exactly how to pay you.
How to download as PDF
Click the "Download PDF" button to open your browser's print dialogue. Select "Save as PDF" (or "Microsoft Print to PDF" on Windows) as the destination. The tool uses print-specific CSS to hide the editor panel and format the invoice preview as a clean, print-ready page, regardless of which template is selected.
Privacy and data security
All invoice data is processed entirely in your browser and is never transmitted to any server. Your business name, client details, pricing information, uploaded logo, and signature stay on your device at all times. Your draft is auto-saved to your browser's local storage so it survives a page refresh, and is cleared whenever you click Reset.
