How EV charging cost is calculated
The cost to charge an EV is simply the energy consumed multiplied by the electricity rate: cost = kWh × rate. For a full charge, this is battery capacity × rate.
The cost per mile depends on your vehicle's efficiency: cost/mile = (1 ÷ efficiency) × rate. Higher efficiency and lower electricity rates produce the lowest operating cost.

Charge at home overnight
Home charging is typically 50–80% cheaper than DC fast charging. Installing a Level 2 charger at home is the single biggest money-saving move for EV owners.

Charging efficiency losses
